We spent the evening at a ballet recital rehearsal. It will be our first. I tear up when I see kids I don't know doing their best on stage. I am going to be a mess when my kiddos get up there. I can't wait!

PJ Party
For Katie and John's 5th and Claire's 2nd birthday we celebrated in our pajamas with a house full of friends!
Notables!
Claire likes to pop out of her crib and visit me in the evening. Yesterday she ended up lying down on the couch while I finished a few projects. As I walked by I sternly reminded her to close her eyes. A few minutes later while I was washing my face and moisturizing I turned to find my sweet baby girl walking slowly towards me, carrying her blankie, eyes clamped shut! Cutie pie. :)
On really cold nights I layer one of John's undershirts under Allison's pajamas. Every time super skinny little Red smiles, flexes her arms and shouts, "Look at my muscles, Mommy!"

Happy Birthday!
Katie and John turned FIVE yesterday. Oh what a treat the day was!
Every phone call started with Katie shouting into the phone, "HELLO! This is the birthday girl and boy!!!" They both sat with great smiles on their sweet faces as the callers sang Happy Birthday. Allison said, "Happy Birthday" to them every time she passed them in the house and repeated to anyone we met, "It is Katie and John's birthday today."
Katie's favorite gifts were a giant stuffed elephant and an even larger stuffed bear. They take up her entire bed! She gasped when she opened the bear box and shouted, "It is the best gift I ever wanted. I've never seen one before. I love my new brown bear!" Brown bears are always at the top of her 'must have' list and it is the only thing she asked Santa for this year. We will have an army of them soon and she will be in brown bear heaven for years.
Ask John what his favorite present is and he'll tell you, "All of them!" Playmobil sets and RC cars were a big hit. His remarks included, "WOW! This is the best toy I ever wanted from the toy store!" and, "I never knew I could have one of these!"
Watching them open their gifts was a mommy's and toy store owner's dream come true.
I so adore these innocent joyous moments and I hope they never end.

Funny kids...
Claire is taking an awful smelling medicine. She spit it all back out at me the first time I gave it to her and explained, "Mommy, SPICY!" Oh how I giggled. Lucky for me she is easily bribed. She drinks it all down twice a day so that she can enjoy the cookie chaser. :)
Katie, all snuggled in bed, fighting sleep: "Mommy, do you think I am on Santa's nice list or his naughty one?"
Me, "His nice one."
Katie, "What if you're wrong?"

Joy to the World!
...Jenn is back to blogging. :)
Since my last blog I have sold the house, moved all of our belongings into storage, moved all of the kids and pets into a rental, reunited with Spence for two weeks, traveled to Houston for most of a week, finished 90% of my Christmas shopping and designed (though not yet printed) my Christmas card. In the next two weeks I have multiple events, a long trip to Virginia, Christmas and two 5 year old birthdays. All I want for Christmas is a clone of me! :p
Claire has started preschool. What a doll she is! One day a week she joins her brother and sisters at school. She just toddles in there, hangs up her jacket, picks up a toy and doesn't look back. Ask her what her name is and she'll tell you HAPPY FEET! Often she will jazz it up with a peppy little version of modern tap and a big smile. Ask her to say 'Claire' and she says, 'MY!' as in 'That's MY name!'
Katie, John and Allison had their preschool Christmas program today. For the first time ever there was NO crying! (I have had to pull Katie off stage in previous years to save the program from complete disaster.) All three of them enthusiastically participated. I was so excited to watch them. They were thrilled to get a cookie after... Priorities!
Katie's taste in music warms my heart. Her favorites these days are from The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins. He most requested Christmas song is Little Drummer Boy. What mommy wouldn't be proud?
John is quite pleased with our rental house, circa 1854. He finds things to fix and collect and create daily. His outdoor collection consists of old bricks, large sticks, an old bucket and a few other cast offs her found in his yard. He does refer to the pile as his 'collection'. His most recent creation (which he does refer to as his 'creation') consists of different sized mailing boxes and packing tape. He tapes the flaps up and out or tapes a few boxes together. His current fix-it project is matching the 50 keys we have found here to the doors in the house. He is a boy who doesn't need toys; he makes his own fun.
Allison is still walking around everywhere with a thumb in her mouth and a couple of fingers twirling the front of her hair. She recently added a small soft blankie to the mix. I know that someday she will outgrow all of those things; I hope it isn't too soon and I hope that I will always be able to conjure up that perfectly innocent and sweet image of her.
